In 2003, Jonathan’s struggles with addiction and criminality led him to an indeterminate prison term of 15 years-to-life. While incarcerated Jonathan committed himself to sobriety and rehabilitation. Through his dedication and willingness to engage in courageous introspection, he came to understand a simple but often hard to accept maxim, “Life is not about me.”
From this understanding, Jonathan continued his transformation by actively pursuing a college education and a life of service. He accumulated several college degrees, which range from associates to masters. Jonathan also strived to be a man of service. One aspect of his service was mentoring. He discovered this talent of assisting other people on a journey of personal growth as he trained to become a transformational coach and substance abuse counselor.
Since 2014 Jonathan has been working as a certified substance abuse counselor in a wide range of therapeutic settings with various methodologies. Working at the White Oak Recovery Center is another opportunity for him to make “living amends” by helping other people become the best versions of themselves.

Struggling with my own addiction was a daily battle for six years, it left me manipulative, a liar, and a constant disappointment to my family. After multiple failed attempts trying to stay sober, I realized the only way to achieve sobriety and happiness would be to work on myself within. Today I live a life free of the obsession of the disease that millions suffer from daily and I dedicate my life to help the next struggling individual just like someone did for me.
